Anthony Vega took the oath as the 16th Lake County Clerk on December 1, 2022, embracing the historic merger of the Clerk’s Office and the Recorder of Deeds with vision and determination. From day one he committed to modernizing services, expanding access, and preserving the public trust, leading both as Chief Election Authority and steward of Lake County’s land, vital, tax extension and assumed business records.
In his first year, Anthony returned over $3 million to local governments, boosted election judge pay to build a stronger workforce, and used federal funds to bring Lake County’s election systems into the 21st century. His leadership continued with his appointment to the Ranked Choice Voting Task Force in early 2024, successful deployment of next-generation e-pollbooks and ballot-on-demand technology during the 2024 Presidential cycle, and the 2025 launch of a vote-anywhere model that puts voters first. These achievements reflect a clear philosophy: leverage technology, invest in infrastructure, and expand accessibility so democracy works for everyone.
Anthony’s election was also a milestone for representation. Anthony is the first Latino County Clerk in Lake County and the first openly LGBTQ+ candidate to win countywide office, demonstrating that public service is strengthened by diverse voices. He holds a B.A. in Political Science from Bellarmine University in Louisville, Kentucky and a Master’s in Public Policy from Loyola University Chicago.
A resident of Round Lake Beach, Anthony lives with his spouse Jorge and their three dogs, Vader, Kylo, and Rey. His story is one of courage, inclusion, and pragmatic progress; proof that thoughtful leadership can transform government and deepen trust in democracy.
